Study Abroad: the Planning Phase

I'm just getting started...

This summer I will be studying abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina with API Study Abroad. I will be leaving in a month and since I have a lot of work to do while stateside for my experience abroad, I figured I might as well keep track of the work I do while I'm here.

So far I have applied and been accepted to the program, paid all my dues and am now waiting to go through a study abroad orientation program this weekend. I attended a program like this last summer, but this time my parents will get to come with me and learn about where I will be and what I will be doing. It should be interesting to see what the study abroad office tells me to expect while abroad.

Last summer, I went to London for four weeks and Paris for a weekend with an Honors Art Appreciation study abroad course. That program was  taken with about a dozen other traveling University of North Texas students. We all lived together in student housing and had activities everyday together.

This summer, I will be traveling alone and living with a host family. I am really excited about having freedom and feeling more dependent on locals for information. This summer will also be extremely different from last summer because I will be learning a new language! I took Spanish in high school, and while I enjoyed the topic and language, I never seemed to stay interested long enough to actually learn the language.

I have a feeling I am going to learn a lot more while abroad than I ever did in a classroom.
